Job Summary

Enovix is seeking a Coating Process Development Engineer who can develop and scale-up processes and equipment for coating battery electrode materials.  The Coating Process Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and sustaining roll-to-roll coating, slurry mixing, calendering and metrology operations.


Responsibilities

  • Develop processes to optimize the properties of coated electrodes.
  • Define and develop novel methods of coating and patterning thick film electrode materials.
  • Transfer existing R&D processes from bench-scale to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Interface with internal and external suppliers and customers to define thick-film coating requirements.
  • Define equipment, materials and process requirements for roll-to-roll coating, slurry mixing, calendering, slitting and metrology operations.
  • Setup and maintain SPC charts for critical process parameters.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts to understand and mitigate process and quality excursions.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science, chemical engineering, physics, chemistry or related discipline required (master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience in an R&D or manufacturing setting developing roll-to-roll coating processes and equipment including slurry mixing, slot die coating, calendering, slitting.
  • Experience in the design, development, manufacturing or qualification of Li-ion batteries.
  • Proven track-record of solving problems in the scale-up of R&D processes to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with SPC, DOE and FMEA methodologies.

Job Summary

Enovix is seeking process engineers for the development and scale up of a battery line in Fremont, CA. The assembly process engineer will be responsible for the process and equipment for the definition of the electrode through the construction of the packaged cell.


Responsibilities

  • Define manufacturing processes for the assembly of lithium ion batteries using Enovix patented technology.
  • Use stage gate process to develop, characterize, and implement scale-up processes.
  • Support the equipment engineering team in the design, equipment selection, and qualification of customized equipment for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Define and develop novel methods for the patterning and assembly of state-of-the-art electrode material.
  • Work closely with the R&D team for materials selection of next generation battery materials and assembly processes.
  • Transfer existing R&D processes from lab scale to high-volume manufacturing with high-process capability.
  • Interact with customers to define process roadmap based on next generation cell requirements.
  • Drive cell yield improvements through DOE and SPC.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts to understand and mitigate process and quality excursions in a high volume, fast paced environment.

Job Summary

Enovix is seeking a test engineer for the development and scale up of a battery line in Fremont, CA. The test engineer will be responsible for planning, testing, analysis, reporting, troubleshooting and expanding test capacity from R&D to pilot line and full production.


Responsibilities

  • Analyze and report on standard device performance and yield trends.
  • Troubleshoot failing parts and determine the next steps of electrical and physical characterization.
  • Improve how we test parts by carefully planning and executing experiments targeted at company needs.
  • Expand testing capacity as the company grows from an R&D line to a pilot line to a production line.
  • Audit and improve the accuracy and precision of all of the test lab outputs.
  • Program the testers to turn high-level test ideas into executable recipes that operators can run.
  • Maintain tester uptime, safety, and capacity in partnership with vendors and the maintenance group.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science, chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering or related discipline (advanced degree a plus).
  • Strong fundamentals of mathematics, statistics, physics and chemistry.
  • Knowledge of the physics and chemistry of batteries or the ability to learn it quickly on the fly.
  • Facility to analyze large data sets and extract meaningful information.
  • Aptitude to complete projects in a faced-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Good judgment, sometimes with insufficient data, to determine appropriate action and mitigate risks.
  • Demonstrated tolerance of ambiguity, flexibility to adapt to new situations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • The abilities to work well with other team members and to work independently.
  • Experience in device electrical testing—battery testing is a plus.
  • Experience with prototyping a process, then documenting it and handing it off for others to run.
  • Programming ability—particularly with SQL and python.
  • Interest in working in a fast-paced start-up company.
